Neighbourhood

If you downloaded this mod prior to 22/04/12, then please delete those files and download the updated files below the cut.

After over a year of working on it, I think it's about time to share that grass default terrain replacement, amongst others...

OK, where do we start? The oft-requested grass terrain, I guess!

NEW! Matching terrain paints:

Right, some useful info for you:

1) The terrain replacements are all completely separate, so you need only use the one(s) you want, and you can mix and match them with other people's replacements (Ja's, evanesco's, etc.) if you wish. Just make sure that you only have one replacement for each type of terrain at any one time.

2) The road replacement is also entirely separate, so you don't have to use it along with the terrain replacements, or vice versa, if you don't want to. There is one copy of the road replacement for each terrain type.

3) The road replacement by itself does not appear on the section of road in front of a lot in lot view. So, you need to cover the Maxis road somehow. As a solution for this I have provided a road overlay mesh and recolours for the different sections of road. There are two versions: regular and Seasons-friendly (any issues with shadows clipping through, etc. have now been fixed). The Seasons versions becomes properly overlaid with snow in winter:

The road overlays are under Deco>Misc in the catalog, and they cost zero Simoleans (so should be at the very front of the catalog).

You will need to use the 'moveobjects on' cheat to place the overlay.

4) By themselves, the terrain replacements are not compatible with the Maxis roads. For those who might want to use only my terrain replacements along with the Maxis roads, I have also provided a 'Maxis-match' road replacement, which is required in order for everything to look as it should in lot view:

On to the downloads now? Yes, on to the downloads I think...

To make life easier, I have put together download 'bundles' for several different game configurations, and a separate download for the Maxis-match road replacements. But, if you would rather pick and choose for yourself, then the folder containing all the individual downloads is here.

DOWNLOAD STANDARD BUNDLE
{download if you do not have Seasons and do not use the Radiance 2.4 lighting mod}

DOWNLOAD RADIANCE BUNDLE
{download if you do not have Seasons but do use the Radiance 2.4 lighting mod}

DOWNLOAD SEASONS BUNDLE
{download if you do have Seasons but do not use the Radiance 2.4 lighting mod}

DOWNLOAD RADIANCE/SEASONS BUNDLE
{download if you do have Seasons and do use the Radiance 2.4 lighting mod}

DOWNLOAD MAXIS-MATCH ROAD REPLACEMENTS
{download if you want to use my terrain replacements with Maxis roads - discard the road replacements included with the bundles}

I did attempt to correct for lighting differences between the 'hood and lot that were introduced by Seasons and/or the Radiance lighting mod (version 2.4), but to be honest I couldn't find a really effective way to do so, especially for the Radiance/Seasons combination (the desert and concrete terrains are the worst offenders). Therefore you will still see quite noticeable differences between 'hood and lot lighting in lot view (just as with the default Maxis terrain and road textures), especially at dawn/dusk/night. Sorry, but I couldn't compensate for this.

If you use any other lighting mod, or a different version of Radiance lighting, then I'm afraid you will just have to experiment with the different versions of the files and see what works best for your own game. However, I would suggest the standard (or Seasons - if you have this EP) bundle as the best place to start.

Last but not least, the credits, and after those I'm off to bed - goodnight!

CREDITS:

Maxis, L4D and CG textures for the textures - I independently used the same original road texture as evanesco, but I've done something slightly different with it
Ja, for the road overlay mesh (which I edited) and the default-replacement packages on which I based my own
psychosim, for a very helpful tip on a clever way to match the lot and neighbourhood view terrain colours (which he probably won't even remember telling me now!)

Oh wow, these look GREAT. The rather worn but still vibrant look to these fits my aesthetic best of everything out there. <3

These are awesome! My game is mostly maxis-match, but I plopped these down (I couldn't resist!) and I think they look great. Thank you so much :)
